Second "Boston-Woche"

Andris Nelson's inauguration as 21st Gewandhauskapellmeister marked the beginning of a cooperation with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Both orchestras share a part of their history in the late 19th and early 20th century. Composition commissions are awarded together and a "Leipzig Week" and a "Boston-Woche" are held in the other concert hall. The week includes symphonic concerts with the "typical" repertoire of the partner orchestra as well as lectures, discussion rounds and panel discussions.

IMPULS-district projekt in Leipzig East

Arousing a fascination for classical music and showing how enriching classical music can be for each individual if you only open up to it - that's what we also want outside the home of the Gewandhausorchester. That's why the Gewandhausorchester plays free concerts not only in the streets and passages of the city centre, but also in the east of Leipzig.

This is followed by a major concert with Bernstein's »Facsimile« for orchestra (Omer Meir Wellber). The GewandhausChor interprets Bernstein's »Chichester Psalms« (Marin Alsop), followed by the benefit concert »Leipzig hilft Kindern«, in which Alsop conducts Bernstein's overture »Candide« and dances from »On the Town«.
