Mendelssohn at Bach festival

In the 19th century the former Gewandhauskapellmeister Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was the central figure of a Bach renaissance, which brought the works of the former cantor at the Thomaskirche back into the consciousness of a broad musical public. The Gewandhausorchester takes this great significance of Mendelssohn for Bach's reception into account by performing the music of the former Gewandhauskapellmeister next to the music of the former cantor during the Bach Festival.
